THE STORY OF I.H. SCHLEZINGER, INC.
It started with one man and his horse and buggy. Today, IHS Metal Recycling is the largest scrap metal processor in Central Ohio specializing in the recycling of ferrous and non-ferrous metal. IHS Metal Recycling serves residential, commercial and industrial customers from various industries and locations across the region.
1905 - THE BEGINNING
IHS Metal Recycling started in 1905 by Isaac Harry Schlezinger, a European immigrant who used a horse and wagon to get his start in the scrap business.
1920's - AN EARLY INNOVATOR
In the 1920's, IHS Metal Recycling was the first business in the Columbus area to operate a hydraulic press. It was fed by hand and produced 100-150lb. bales.
LATE 1940'S - WORLD WAR ll SCRAP
Army defense department awarded contract to IHS Metal Recycling to scrap battlefield tanks which led to a reduction in post war unemployment.
1972 - THE SHREDDER
Opened Central Ohio's first shredding plant that turned over 40,000 tons of scrap steel a year from shredding cars.
1995 - GOING DIGITAL
In 1995, IHS Metal Recycling modernized their infrastructure with a computer system to track inventory and a state of the art electronic truck scale.

IHS Metal Recycling is Central Ohio's largest full-service metal recycler with a diverse range of capabilities, cutting-edge equipment, and well over a century of experience.
